The below story was incorporated into our wedding reception alongside a bottle of our favorite sparkling wine for signing by our guests.
Why the giant bottle of sparkling wine? The first vacation we took together was to Napa Valley, California.
We started off our time in Napa at sunrise, floating in a hot air balloon more than 3,000 feet above corridors of grapes and in between the mountains of one of the most magnificent valleys. While we landed going 10 mph bracing ourselves for impact, we knew then that the rest of the vacation was going to be amazing.
Our favorite vineyard from the trip was Schramsberg. Tucked into the densely forested slopes of Diamond Mountain, Schramsberg Vineyards is the oldest hillside vineyard in Napa.
It was at Schramsberg giggling over the sommelier describing how she can “taste the biscuits” and the “oaky” flavor of the different wines, that we started to gain an appreciation for fine wine – or least something a bit better than Jessica’s single girl wine for TGIT and popcorn nights.
After tasting more than a dozen glasses or so, we headed down into the Schramsberg caves where we saw a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make sparkling wine. We’ll never forget the music blaring in the caves while the professional bottle turners were banging and twisting the bottles – ask us why later.
After the week in Napa, we decided our favorite red is the J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon, a limited label made by Schramsberg, and we now have a love of the Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine. Did you know Schramsberg’s Blanc de Blancs has been the official sparking wine of the White House since 1972? Ha, neither did we.
Anyways, we hope you sign the bottle, and join us in celebrating our big day. And, we’ll let you know when it’s time to pop the cork on this thing – we’ll need your help!
Cheers,
Jessica & Eric
