Whoa! Wedding Planning

We’ve been engaged for almost four months now (you read our engagement story here) and are in the throes of wedding planning these days.

I plan corporate events for work all the time, but quickly realized planning a wedding is a whole new ball game.

We are 398 days from the big day (but who’s counting, haha!), and Eric and I felt pretty accomplished … or so we thought.

We’ve secured the following: our wedding venue, Studio Dan Meiners, check. The band, Atlantic Express, check. Colors and general theme, check. But, there’s still so much to think about.

For some inspiration, my mom and I attended the KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular this weekend. Our mission was to learn more about photographers, catering, bakery options, tux/suit rental options, bridal shops, honeymoon destinations and transportation.

After hours exploring different booths and signing up to win all sorts of things, I left with a swag bag full of flyers and pamphlets … and a mind going a mile-a-minute.

I had no idea how many options there are for save-the-dates, invitations, RSVP cards, accommodation cards, envelopes, programs … the list goes on and on. Oh, and I almost forgot … a wedding website and hashtag. Any ideas?!

Although aspects of the process are a bit overwhelming, I’m excited to have walked away with several new options to consider. Eric and I hope to knock quite a bit off the list in the next couple of weeks.

IMG_5786We just booked appointments for catering, cake, photography and attire. Not too shabby for a Sunday afternoon.

The biggest takeaway from today: focus on one thing at a time. And, create a plan. I created a wedding book months ago to catalog inspiration. And I’m finding that Pinterest boards, Notes and Google Drive have kept us organized so far throughout the process – everything from the guest list and budget to appointments and vendor communication.

Will keep you posted for what’s next, and we hope you enjoyed a little sneak peek into what we’re thinking about for our big day!
