Easy Holiday Gift : Homemade Vanilla Extract

When the weather starts to turn cold, our family moves from spending most our time out on the back patio to inside gathered around our kitchen.

Eric and I love that our kids enjoy cooking and baking as much as we do, and they’re starting to understand that that the kitchen is heart of our home … the gathering place for our family and friends.

This year, we decided to make our friends a gift that we hope reminds them of The Palm House and inspires them to create memories and moments in the heart of their homes.

Directions
– Wash and thoroughly dry your glass bottles.
– Using a cutting board and knife or scissors, cut down the length of each vanilla bean pod leaving .5 inch connected at the top of each pod.
– Once all pods are split, drop 5 pods into each glass bottle.
– Fill bottles full with Vodka or Bourbon.
– Seal bottles closed.
– Create and print cards and/or labels for the bottles.
– Assemble.

Tips:
– The teardrop shaped bottles are beautiful, but labels won’t lay right on the glass.
– Must use Tahitian Vanilla Beans.
– It doesn’t matter what quality vodka or bourbon you use. The alcohol gets baked out.
– The longer you let them sit, the darker the vanilla gets.
