When ‘Love Where You Live’ Means More

I can’t believe we’re already celebrating three years in the home we built. While I knew that this home would be special to us, a house we knew we’d grow into, at the time I didn’t realize just how special it would become.

It’s always been the place we’d bring our kiddos home from the hospital. Where we’d gather family and friends to celebrate important dates and milestones. Our day-to-day home base. Over the last 18+ months, this home has flexed with us. It became a work command center during the week, a giant playroom on the weekends and our safe place during a time of great uncertainty.

And, it was during this time, I really started to love where we lived.

Beyond picking the physical structure of home, Eric and I spent a lot of time exploring the KC area to find the right neighborhood for our growing family. We wanted to land in a neighborhood with younger families, quick access to anywhere in the metro, and the ability to walk to the grocery store, shops, restaurants and lifestyle amenities.

When we settled on our neighborhood, I was thrilled to find out that the AdventHealth South Overland Park Emergency Room was open with plans to build a full hospital.

In the three years we’ve lived in our home, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting the AdventHealth South Overland Park ER a few times – yikes, as a new mama – but honestly, I’m grateful to live literally two minutes away. This ER was there for my family when my son was four months old and tested positive for the flu, and again when he was almost one and needed stitches in his forehead after a tumble outside. Baby Shark will forever remind me of the kind nurse helping me sing to Lincoln through mama sobs as they stitched him up.

And now, we’re regularly on the AdventHealth South Overland Park campus to see our family doctor who is double boarded in internal medicine and pediatrics.

So when the AdventHealth South Overland Park team asked if I wanted to take a tour of the new hospital, of course I said yes!

The state-of-the-art facility offers a full suite of hospital and emergency services. From its birth center, surgical services, heart care and physical therapy to integrative medicine, primary care, imaging services, and emergency room, AdventHealth South Overland Park provides care that focuses on your whole health, mind, body and spirit.

From the moment you step into the 85-bed hospital, you feel a sense of calm. The lobby is flooded with natural light, and the facility features a robust collection of art installations and paintings to create a peaceful and comforting environment.

With its Level-II NICU and full maternity care team, the new birth center boasts an amazing labor and delivery experience. In addition, the birth center suites are designed to create optimal comfort for mother, baby and support team including a laboring tub, flat screen TV, mini fridge and full-size sleeper sofa.

Whether it’s at the birth center, ICU or emergency room, the entire medical team at AdventHealth South Overland Park provides the highest level of expertise, with its nursing staff having more than 500 years of combined experience.

Needless to say, as we wrapped up the tour and I peered out the hospital windows overlooking my neighborhood, I saw my home. And, I found a new reason to love where I live.
