Home & Hospitality | 5 Tips for Backyard Gatherings

Settled nicely between spring and summer, the month of May holds all sorts of fun activities. From Mother’s Day celebrations and graduation parties to pool openings and backyard barbecues, it’s a time for gathering friends and family.

With warm days and sherbet sunsets, now is the perfect time to harness your hosting powers. Patio parties and barbecue get-togethers are a great way to bring friends and family together, so try a few of these party tricks that are sure to make you the hostess with the most-ess.

  • Curate a party playlist that matches the tone of the gathering you’re hosting. Try this one featuring Kansas City artists.
  • When you’re stocking up on beverages for your gathering, consider adding a “house cocktail” to the mix. This Coco Bolos margarita is delish – add some muddled jalapeño to give it an extra kick!
  • Whether they’re from your backyard or a quick newspaper-wrapped pickup, fresh-cut flowers complete any party decor. Pro tip : buy a couple of grocery store bouquets and mix them for a more garden-inspired arrangement.
  • While normally “more the merrier” is well, merrier, sometimes it’s not. Take the time to introduce your guests to each other, creating intentional connections and meaningful conversation.
  • And as always, don’t forget the snacks. Place food items in areas where you want people to congregate. Not sure what to serve? Check out Grazing KC for fun charcuterie inspo.

Cheers to bringing a little hospitality into your home this spring season!
